Presentation of Christmas cookies marked the start of this campaign
De Rode Luifel in Hoorn is an activity centre for the mentally handicapped. At the ‘De Scheerder’ location one of the many trades represented is baking, their bakery produces delicious cakes and biscuits. On December 14th last Fia Hauwert presented her delightful Christmas cookies to a representative of Bahay Aurura for transport to the Philippines to be later handed out to the children of Bahay Aurora. This marked the start of a two month long fund raising campaign for the children’s home. The campaign ends with a fancy fair on February 26th. to which everyone is welcome: not only the staff of AC de Rode Luifel, the centre’s clients, their parents, brothers, sisters and other family members but also members of the community and anyone interested in coming along. Goods offered for sale at the fancy fair will include:

* Slices of delicious apple-pie from the centre’s bakery.
* Tea, coffee, and hot chocolate catered for by the canteen staff.
* Candles made by the elderly clients of De Scheerder.
* Handmade scarves provided by the senior citizens in Bovenkarspel, North Holland.
* Artwork
* Wheel of Fortune
* Lottery tickets.
* Children’s activities.

In addition to the above a sponsored walk will take place at a specially laid out circuit in the park behind de Rode Luifel buildings. Here, using various methods (walking, pushing, running etc.) our clients, helpers and others will attempt to complete the circuit as many times as possible to raise the maximum for the Bahay Aurora campaign. In the run up to this event a portion of the proceeds from the sale of all apple- pies will be donated to the cause. Furthermore a number of staff members, volunteers and trainees at the centre donated their 2009 Christmas hampers to the children of Bahay Aurora.
