Good food and exercise
The majority of the children living Bahay Aurora suffered from malnutrition at a very young age.   As a result, many of the children are underdeveloped for their age; underdeveloped to such an extent that complete recovery is unlikely.   Performance levels at school are also affected by early malnutrition.   Good food is therefore of the utmost importance.   The children receive three healthy and balanced meals each day, consisting of rice, vegetables and whenever possible meat or fish.

The children exercise daily through sport and dance.   Since the completion of the covered basketball court in 2009, it is possible for the children to play sports whatever the weather is like.

Personal care and hygiene
The children are also taught to take care of themselves.   Their past experiences have left many of them with a negative self-image, many street children having suffered discrimination.   A great deal of attention is given therefore to personal care and hygiene: brushing of teeth, showering, clean clothes, nail care, etc.     The children learn to take care of themselves properly.
It is hoped that with this attention to personal care the children will develop a better self-image and sense of self-worth.

Spiritual Care
Street children have no concept of feeling safe and secure.   Their lack of parental guidance and love at such an early age often results in negative, inappropriate or even aggressive behaviour.

Due to the compact size of the centre and the presence of a sufficient number of carers, it is possible to recreate a ‘family’ type setting.   By giving plenty of attention to the children in a loving environment it is hoped that the children will feel safe and develop a sense of security.
A social worker is present in the team to provide the necessary support.   Children with more complex problems receive extra attention, support and guidance.   Should it be deemed necessary, additional help will be sought from outside the complex.

Morals and Ethics
Morals and ethics are central to the success of the project.   Attention is paid to the following issues on a daily basis:
→   Respect for yourself and for others
→   Honesty and trustworthiness
→   Respect for the property of others
→   Respect in dealings with others
→   Use of non offensive language
→   Respect for animals and the environment
