Nutrition month

Every month of July, primary and secondary schools in the Philippines are preparing to celebrate “Nutrition Month”. On that celebration there are different kinds of activities that includes nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables and many more. They conducted parades for students and they were also assigned to draw and paint vegetables and fruits, they cut it out, pasted it into a yarn and placed it on a stick for them to present it in to that said parade.
Kids from Bahay Aurora participated in the celebration on their school and while doing their art works after school for the Nutrition Month, staffs from Bahay Aurora had their time to teach children with regards to the importance of eating nutritious foods and what are the benefits of it, for them to have a healthy lifestyle and also prevent sickness.

Bukluran returns

It has been for years that the group of Bukluran was coming to our place to share their blessings to our children. Last July 25, 2015, again they visited Bahay Aurora to share their blessings. First they did a simultaneous team building activity which the children really enjoyed. After that we had a ‘Budol Fight’ lunch with unlimited cake for the kids because three of them celebrated their birthday. The celebrants were teary eyed when they were given a card and read the message written on it.
We thank them for giving a raincoat for each child Our kids really loved it because no one will go home wet anymore due to unexpected rains every day. Our kids also enjoyed the collectors’ item toys that were given to them and to others slippers and shoes.
We thank you ‘Bukluran’ for making our kids happy.

A rainy day

It was a rainy Saturday afternoon in Bahay Aurora. When it is too too rainy to play outside, the kids can fall victim to the “I’m Bored Blues”. With a little creativity and imagination we let our kids play with paper. They fold it into airplanes and also cut it into whatever they like by using their imagination and creativity. So they are also learning while enjoying. Some kids played board game a ‘snake and ladder’ which is 4 or more people can play to this game with a mechanics, some kids like to play dominos and etc. Rainy days got you down no more in Bahay Aurora. All in all a rainy day is a day that fills you with joy and calm and soothes your soul even if it might sometimes be inconvenient.

Summercamp 2015

Every year we try to go on summercamp during the long summer holidays. Thanks to generous gifts we could also go on camp this summer.
Early in the morning (after litlle sleep of excitement) we went to resort “Philips Santuary” by jeepney and minibus.
We swam en played games and did a kind of bootcamp (like soldiers do). It was really a lot of fun and at the end of the day everyone was very very tired.
The next day we played for several ours on playground equipment and after that we went back to Bahay Aurora.
It was a success en we hope we can organise a summercamp next year as well!

Boat trip

Last April 21, our children went out for boating. For most of them it was the first time and they were really amazed en excited. Days before they were asking all the time what will happen.
Early in the morning all the kids couldn’t wait to hear and see what will happen and when the jeepney came, all of them were excited as if somebody were tikling them. On our way to the port everybody was quiet but with their eyes wide open…. They were curious to see which boat they were going to ride. Kids really enjoyed and were a little bit nervous upon hopping on the boat. When the engine of the boat started some of the kids shouted out of excitement.
The driver of the boat toured us around the lake before we stopped on an island were we had our lunch. Here the kids jumped off the water for swimming when we announced that they could enjoy the water. They were also happy because they could see and catch some fish by their hand. Later we went to the basketball court on that island where our kids socialized with the kids from the island to play basketball and volleyball.
Other kids also enjoyed flying the kite which was also a new experience to others.
This experience was new to most of the kids and I can say that they really had a great day!

Bahay Aurora kids receive awards in school

After ten months of sitting in the classrooms, doing their homework in the evening, finishing their school projects and walking back and forth to school at last it all paid off. Another school year has ended and six from our children received recognition from their school.
Angelo was recognized top one in their class, Lovely who is in grade three got the second rank, Mary Ann, Rizza and Sharon also receives special awards, Merlie was given a special recognition and was also awarded as “athlete of the year” for representing their school in the Track and Field division up to the Regional level.
It was our pride that even our children from this institution were able to show off their ability and talents and become competitive. Now that another year is waiting ahead of them and will face another challenge in their life and we hope that this will become their inspiration to excel more for their bright future.

Visitors

New Year has only just begon, but we’ve had already a lot of visitors. First Jan Oosterhof, who gave a course First Aid for the third time now. The course was for children and staff en we’ve learned a lot about wound bandage, mouth to mouth resuscitation and cardiac massage. After the course everybody received a certificate. Jan, thank you so much. It was nice to have you here at Bahay Aurora and we hope you’ll come back often.

Then Edna and her husband en children visited us for 2 days. They planned activities for het children from early in the morning till late at night. The karaoke was a success, the children liked it very much.

Also Marvin came along. He lived with us for many years. He brought biscuits for the children. He works for the Minister of Justice in Quezon City now and is happy. Marvin is doing fine and that is great to experience.

Physical Fitness

When most adults think about exercise, they imagine working out in the gym on a treadmill or lifting weights.
But for kids at Bahay Aurora, exercise simply means playing and being physically active.
Kids do exercise when they play baskeball and other sports, running, relays, riding bicycle or when playing tag like a traditional games like luksong tinik, patintero and other kinds of activities.
Every afternoon, children gathered together with staffs and volunteers and Mrs.Arleen Smidstra lead in the daily exercise. She once again promote and introduced the good benefits of exercise to our health aside from eating healthy food.

This Physical health education builds childrens knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes about health. It also teaches about physical, mental,
emotional and social health. It motivates kids to improve and maintain their health, prevent disease, and reduce risky behaviors.

This kind of challenge is to help children de ¬velop active, positive lifestyles. In ¬tegrating knowledge and activity will help convince children that exercise is important to their well-being and increase the chance that physical activity will be ¬come a permanent part of their daily lives.
Once children begin to regularly incorporate fitness into their experience, they are more likely to modify other health factors to complement their healthy lifestyles. Besides enjoying the health benefits of regular exercise, kids who are physically fit sleep better and are better able to handle physical and
emotional challenges. Exercise and Physical

Fitness is more fun at Bahay Aurora

Champion Merlie

Champion Merlie

Track and field is a sport which combines various athletic contests based on their skills, particularly running. This includes sprints, middle and long-distance events, and hurdling.

Merlie, one of the kids in Bahay Aurora and as a representative of their school and of Morong Rizal won on the said sports competition held in Marikina Sports Center last November 3-7, 2014. Merlie together with her competitors were gathered on the said place to practice and compete for a week. She got 2 first place on that competition, one is on 1500 meter-run and the other one was 800 meter-run, and by that she received 2 gold medals that makes her happy.

After the event, as she arrives at the Bahay Aurora, kids were gathered at the porch to greet her and to have some little celebration. By winning on the said competition, her schoolmates and as well as the kids in Bahay Aurora were so proud of her.

We hope that in the future, Merlie will be one of those greatest athletes on that said sport and all kids will reach their goals in life to become a successful person as they will grow old and not to forget where they came from.
